  • What are the operating hours of the SIM library?
    • Tay Eng Soon Library's opening hours are as follows:
      Monday - Friday: 8.30 A.M to 9.00 P.M
      Saturday: 9.00 A.M to 5.30 P.M
      Closed on Sundays & Public Holidays

  • What is My Library Account?​
    • All SIM GE and SUSS students are provided with a library account . By default, the login username is your SIM ID/ PI Number and the Date of Birth is your password – in the format DDMMYYYY.
      With your personal Library Account, you can access the following services:
      •Review your loan record, due dates and library fines
      •Renew checked out books
      •Check for status of book reservations
      •Cancel reservations

  • What library services will be available to me after I graduate?
    • All SIM GE and SUSS graduates are extended a free one-year Experience Membership scheme allowing you to stay in our circle of knowledge sharing and a further opportunity to experience the various offerings of SIM Membership even after you graduate.
      •Access to SIM Libraries and selected e-Resources in the library

       

       

  • What do I need to borrow books?
    • The SIM/SUSS Student Card  is required to check out library books.

  • I am a new student or staff of SIM/SUSS, how do I borrow books?
    • To check out library books, the SIM/SUSS student card  is required. Students can borrow (or “check out”) the books at the self check machines or at the circulation counter. Students and staff can borrow a maximum of 6 items at any one time.

  • I am a visitor. Is it possible for me to use your library?
    • SIM Library services and facilities are only privileged for use by its members.

  • I cannot log into My Library Account. I'm prompted with an error message
    • Kindly alert SIM Library and we will rectify the issue.

  • I lost my item when I was in the library. What should I do?
    • All lost and found items in the library will be forwarded to the Lost & Found Counter (Security Counter) at the Blk A Atrium Lobby. Kindly approach the security office for your lost items.

  • I lost a library book. What should I do? How much do I need to pay?
    • You must report all loss of SIM Library books immediately upon discovery to the library staff. You are liable to pay for the current cost of the missing book and an additional administrative fee of $16.05 (inclusive of 7% GST). Out of print books will be charged at a flat rate of $100 (inclusive of 7% GST).

  • How do I update my particulars with the SIM library?
    • You may update your contact details such as your address phone numbers and email address at the SIM Members’ Hub SIM/SUSS Student Portal or SIMConnect.

  • How many books may I borrow at one time?
    • SIM Members and SIM/SUSS undergraduate students can borrow up to a maximum of 6 books at one time. Masters and PhD students can borrow up to a maximum of 8 books at one time.

  • What are the library materials that I can borrow?

  • Can a non-student borrow a book from the RCC or Course Collection?
    • Books belonging to these two collections may be borrowed ONLY by current SIM/SUSS students.

  • What is the loan duration for the library materials?
    • The loan duration of the books vary. Click here for more information.

  • How do I search for a book in the library?
  • Can I borrow Periodicals from the library?
    • Periodicals are ONLY for reference in the library. However you may make a photocopy of one article or 10% from a periodical. Singapore Copyright Act 1987

  • How come I can’t find exam papers for my course?
    • Exam papers for SIM GE courses are available at the website of the university you are currently studying. Visit the university library website to check how to access the exam papers.

      Exam papers for SUSS courses are available at SUSS Student Portal.

  • What is a full text journal article?
    • It simply means that the entire content of the journal article is available electronically.

  • How do I check if the full text of a journal article is available?
    • If an article that you find in a database is held in full text, "Full text Available" will be shown as a status below the search result.


  • I can only access an older issue of a journal online, why?
    • Our subscription or licensing agreement may not cover the dates of coverage that you need. The publisher allows us to have access to the previous issues we have paid for, but not to the current issues. For instance, some journals which are available to us through ABI Inform and Business Source Complete are embargoed for a period of time.

  • Why can't I find a certain journal article?
    • Not all journals have their content available online and some journals are available only in print in the library. For many of the e- journals, our subscription entitles us to access articles online from a certain date of publication.

  • How do I browse journals by subject or discipline?
    • To browse for journals by subjects:
      •Go to SIM Library website
      •Select E-Resources --> Databases A-Z --> Select your subject from the "Browse Subject" dropdown list

  • Can I connect to e-resources from off-campus?
    • Yes, selected online database and e-resources are accessible both on and off campus. The e-resources should be accessed via SIM Library webpage.
      To login, use your SIM ID/ PI Number as your login ID and your Date of Birth (in the format ddmmyyyy) as your password.

  • How do I differentiate between a bookand a journal article?

  • I am required to search for newspaper articles. How can I access?
    • The library subscribes to 2 newspaper databases, i.e. Factiva and Newslink. You can access these databases via library website. Pls follow the steps below:
      At SIM Library Homepage
      a)Select E-Resources and click on Databases A-Z
      b)Choose alphabet F or N and click on Login to start using the database

  • How do I learn to use the online databases; and search for e-journals and e-books available at the library website?
    • We conduct various workshops to equip students with research skills. Types of workshops available:
      a)Infoskills Workshop offered in Jan/Feb or July/Aug (One hour)
      b)Infoskills Clinic every last Friday of the month (Jan-Mar & July-Sept) (30 minutes)
      c)One-to-One InfoSkills session (45 mins – One hour)

  • How do I begin to look for information using the e-resources?
    • Here’s a quick guide on what e-resources to use to find information:
      a) Online Databases (e-Journal articles)
      i. Academic Search Premier (covers multi-disciplinary subjects)
      ii. Business Source Complete
      iii. e-Books (not textbook)
      iv. Ebrary Academic Complete
      v. Newspaper online

  • Can I return my books when the library is closed?
    • Yes. You can return the books at the automated bookdrop by the library entrance at HQ.

  • What items can I return through the bookdrop?
    • All books can be returned through the bookdrop, with the exception of:
      • Audio and Visual materials can only be returned at the library circulation counter
      • Notebooks, iPads and Camcorder can only be returned at the library circulation counter.

  • Can I renew my loans?
    • Books from the Course and General collections can be renewed online at ‘My Library Account’ provided that there are no reservations placed for them. You are entitled to a maximum of 2 renewals for every book on loan.

  • Why can’t I renew an item that is checked out to me?
    • Renewal can be done only if there are no reservations for the item.
      Two possibilities where renewal is unsuccessful:
      • The item was borrowed today. Renewal will only take effect on the day the book is due for renewal.
      • There is a prior reservation for the item you have borrowed.

  • How can I place a reservation for an item(s) that is/are on loan? How do I know when the reserved item(s) is/are ready for collection?
    • You can reserve item(s) online via the Online Library Catalogue . Library staff will inform you through phone call or by email once the reserved item(s) is/are ready for collection.
      Reserved books need to be collected within three working days from the date of allocation. You can check reservation status online via ‘My Library Account’.

  • Can I cancel my hold on a book?
  • How can I get a book that the library does not own?
    • You can make a recommendation to purchase a particular title by e-mailing us. The purchase is subject to library acquisition policies.

  • How much are the overdue fines?

  • How do I pay my overdue fines?
    • You can make payment of any outstanding fines at the library circulation counter. Payment can be made via CashCard or NETS.

  • How do I access wifi at SIM Libraries?
    • Search for the wireless network “SIM-WiFi”. When prompted, log in with your personal User ID and PIN. In the event you are required to reset the PIN, please approach the Student Service Counter.

  • Does library extend opening hours pre/during exam period?
    • The Tay Eng Soon Library (HQ) extends opening hours  leading up to the exam period from 8.30am - 11.00pm on weekdays and 9.00am -9.00pm on saturdays. However all library transactions will cease by 8.45pm on weekdays and 5.15pm on saturdays. Users will only be able to utilize the library space to study.
      Announcements will be posted to inform students of the extended operating hours.

  • What are the devices available for loan in the library?
    • In addition to the academic resources we also loan media resources (CDs / DVDs) that are supportive of the curriculum as well as electronic gadgets such as Camcorders, Notebooks and iPads.

  • Are photocopying services available in the library?
    • Yes, CashCard or EZLink card operated self service photocopier machines are available in the Photocopy Room.

  • How do I print a document from a website or thumbdrive at the library?
    • You may print from any of the PCs located in the library, release and collect your printouts at the Print Release Station, using your CashCard and EZLink card for payment.

  • Does the SIM library offer book delivery services?
    • Yes, SIM library offers home/office book delivery services anywhere within Singapore. Norminal charges apply. Click here to view the book deliver services
